Flood Cleanup

Went to Clendenin WV to participate in some cleanup work following the recent flood. It’s not just water in houses, the river left mud and debris inside and out. Lots of outside help happening in this town, and the folks here appreciate it. Lots more to do.

This 1948 newspaper was behind the drywall of one house; the lead article talks about flooding on the same Elk River that wrecked this community a couple of weeks ago.

Run the Bluegrass Two

Besides the racing, there’s much more to do in Lexington, Kentucky – like drinking bourbon and beer.

BuffaloTraceticket

We had a tour of Buffalo Trace Distillery. They had a Bourbon Bus take us out to the tour and back, and there was plenty of drinking on the bus.

BourbonSchool

Saturday night there was a Bourbon School to teach about the differences in bourbon. The document to the left is a reproduction of an actual alcohol prescription; the only way to get liquor legally during Prohibition was to get a doctor to prescribe it.

OldGregg_Ethereal

We had a tour of Ethereal Brewing. I really enjoyed the Old Gregg Brown Porter.

Art in the Street

A recent visit to Louisville, Kentucky, revealed some interesting examples of art right out in public.

Here and there were sculptures doubling as bicycle racks.

And an awesome piece of art by Alexander Calder! “The Red Feather,” 1975.
